The DVPO is searching for young talent in the Delaware Valley...
The DVPO is dedicated to inspiring, entertaining and educating the community by providing high quality, artistic and diverse symphonic concerts performed by professional musicians. Our Creative Arts
competition, includes three Fine Arts with original compositions in
Music, Poetry and Art. It is believed to be the only one of its kind in the region.
Theme: HEROS: Heroism as Portrayed in Art, Poetry & Music

Talent Showcase at Concert. The selected DVPO Young
Composers, Artists and Poets and their work will be showcased at
the annual Youth in the Arts Concert March 15th, 2008. Each of the
three categories will have 3 winners selected by a panel of independent
judges who are specialists in each of the three fields.
JUDGES This year judges will include Maurice Wright, the Laura
Carnell Professor of Music Composition at Temple's Boyer College of
Music and Dance; Kile Smith, a Philadelphia Composer, Curator of
the Fleisher Collection of Orchestral Music and part-time host on
WRTI; Anita Donovan, drama critic for the Bucks County Courier;
Allan Hoey, 2001 Poet Laureate of Bucks County and now Director of
the Bucks County Poetry Laureate Program; plus Bucks County
Artists David Schleinhofer and Kathryn Spencer.
Here’s how you can get involved and be recognized…
Young Composers A student or a group of students may enter
an original musical composition that is anywhere from 16 to 64
measures, in any meter and in any key based on our theme “HEROS:
Heroism as Portrayed in Art, Poetry & Music.” The three winning
entries will be professionally arranged and performed by the DVPO at
the Mar. 15th concert.
Young Artists Students may enter color drawings in any medium,
single or mixed - acrylic, oil, watercolor, inks , pastels, guache, paper
collage, charcoal mixed, - except computer generated design. Each
entry must be completed by a single artist. Art should be centered
on the theme, “HEROS: Heroism as Portrayed in Art, Poetry & Music”
Final graphic size may be up to 11”x14” 'portrait format'. Winning
entries will be displayed at the Mar. 15th concert.
Young Poets Students may enter poems of any style - free verse,
rhyming couplets, sonnets, etc. - from 14 to 32 lines based on our
theme, “HEROS: Heroism as Portrayed in Art, Poetry & Music.”
Winning poems will be read at the pre-concert lecture on March 15th
and published in the Program Book.
