Rules and Regulations
Eligibility: All Delaware Valley students between grades 4 – 12 are eligible.

Entry Levels: There are 3 levels of competition based on school grade.
- Level 1 – Grades: 4-6
- Level 2 – Grades: 7-9
- Level 3 – Grades: 10-12
Guidelines for Entries: All entries must be based on 2009-2010 Theme: “Moonlit Nights!”
Young Composers:
- May be completed by a student or group of students.
- Original Musical composition that is anywhere from 16-64 measures in length
- Student may use any meter or any key.
Young Artists:
- Each entry must be completed by a single artist.
- Color drawings in any medium, single or mixed – acrylic, oil, watercolor, inks, pastels, guache, paper collage, charcoal mixed, – except computer generated design.
- Final graphic size may be up to 11”x14” ‘portrait format’.
Young Poets:
- Each entry must be completed by a single poet.
- Students may enter poems of any style – free verse, rhyming couplets, sonnets, etc.
- Poem must be between 14 to 32 lines
ALL entrants must also include the following information in order to enter the competition:
- Completed Application Form
- Media Release Form signed by the entrant’s parent or guardian.

- Both title and entry level must appear on the entered piece.
*To prevent judging bias, the student’s name should not appear directly on the entry piece.
Entry Fee: NONE
Judging:
Two highly qualified professionals within each creative realm will judge the individual categories of the competition. All judging will be done anonymously to prevent any bias, either for or against individual students, from occurring.
Winners:
Each of the categories will have 3 winners selected by the judges. All winners will receive a certificate on-stage during the DVPO concert on March 13th, 2010 as well as the following:
Young Composers:
The winning composition pieces will be professionally arranged and performed by the DVPO at the concert on March 13th, 2010. Winners also receive a CD of the performance and a full-score copy of the arranged piece.
Young Artists:
The winning art entries will be displayed in the lobby of the concert on March 13, 2010. Entries will also be printed in the concert’s Program Book.
Young Poets:
The winning poetry entries will be read at the pre-concert lecture on March 13, 2010. Entries will also be published in the concert’s Program Book.
*All applicants will receive two complimentary Adult tickets to the March 13th performance!
Deadline for Entries:
All entries must be received by January 9, 2010. Students with winning entries will be notified by February 9, 2010.
